From its founding in 1980, Alexander Nicholson has been a leader in sustainable and energy responsible construction practices. Our firm early years focused on the building of passive solar and carbon neutral homes. Since that time, we have gained expertise crafting a wide variety of other building envelopes and types while continuing to recognize the importance of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in each structure we build. All of Alexander Nicholson’s construction waste is responsibly recycled and unused materials are donated to Habitat for Humanity.

Alexander Nicholson has LEED accredited personnel on staff and recently completed the Blue Moon Fund, one of Charlottesville’s first buildings to receive LEED certification. Alexander Nicholson is also familiar with Energy Star and Earth Craft building standards and was recently selected to be a LEEP (Local Energy Alliance Program) certified contractor. This program helps property owners reduce energy consumption by providing detailed assessments and suggestions for cost effective energy improvements.
