About the Role
As a Carpenter, you’ll play a key role in our light commercial, historic, and high-end residential
construction projects. Working closely with our experienced Superintendents, you’ll frame
structures and install trim, cabinetry, windows, siding, and other building materials using a
variety of tools and techniques. Your craftsmanship, attention to detail, and commitment to safety and quality will make you a valued member of our team. You’ll also have the opportunity to represent Alexander Nicholson’s core values in interactions with clients, architects, and subcontractors on-site and in the community.
What You’ll Do
Your responsibilities will include:
Collaborating with Superintendents to maintain safe, clean, and efficient job sites
Working with project managers, tradespeople, and the rest of the project team to deliver high-quality work
Measuring, cutting, lifting, and performing manual labor related to construction carpentry
Using power tools such as saws, drills, grinders, and nail guns
Participating in skills and safety training programs
Submitting accurate and timely personal timesheets
Treating clients’ property, homes, and businesses with care and respect
What You’ll Bring
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
Experience: 1-5 years in carpentry, construction, or a related field
Skills: Proficiency in framing, trim carpentry, and related tasks
Physical Ability: Capacity to lift, carry, climb, and work in a physically demanding environment
Craftsmanship: A commitment to high-quality work and attention to detail
Knowledge: General understanding of construction processes, other trades, and the ability to read construction drawings
Requirements: A valid Virginia driver’s license
Location: Ability to work in Charlottesville, VA: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
