Hark vineyards
The Hark family first planted wine grapes in 2016. By 2019, they’d opened the doors of their winemaking facility to the public for the first time. Now, a decade on, their award-winning wines are available in a new tasting room with mountain views across the property.
The building, designed by Design Develop,LLC, is minimalist, with vertical siding, metal trim, and massive sliding doors that invite guests to gather on the porch or appreciate the vineyard landscape. The full wood-paneled ceiling angles towards the view. At one end of the tasting room, the bar and kitchen feature matching wood panels which appear to float, with perfectly aligned 6mm panel gaps. At the other end, a stone fireplace anchors the room and utilizes a reclaimed timber from the property as the mantelpiece.
The vineyard is ideally sited to make use of the unique terroir of the Monticello American Viticultural Area. “Rivers of cold air” flow in the valleys of the Blue Ridge, carrying detrimental colder temperatures down to lower elevations, away from delicate grape vines. Grapes are grown on slopes facing south and west, capturing warm sunlight during the day and enjoying stunning sunsets each evening.
We invite you to explore Hark Vineyards and the other wineries in our area that fulfill Thomas Jefferson’s dream of producing world-class wine in the Virginia Piedmont.
